Concordia Part 2

Day 2, or Tuesday, was rather uneventful at first. We prepared. I went over LD with Jonah. We went out to lunch with some friends from the area. Our Grandparents were around so they went to the first 2 days of the tournament. Before we knew it it was time to head over to the University, which was only a couple blocks down. Despite that fact we still made every wrong turn possible. The first LD round was to be at around 7 or 8, I think. So it was already getting dark. After meeting everyone from last year, standing around some, and standing around some more, postings went up. Jonah was hitting Te G, from Scarlet, and I was hitting Scarlet WK. ( I don't know if they'd appreciate me posting their full names.... I don't know...) Jonah walked up to me- "Hey, we're both committing debater's suicide first round!" While those of you reading may not know these people, Jonah spoke the truth. Will debated Holly in quarters at Point loma, and won this tournament. Teddy won first speaker. So we were both in for quite a round.
If we got to the round, that is. Jonah found his room, but will and I ran into each other searching for ours. We ran all over the campus looking for the nonexistent room, which turned out to be so. The judge's number was mixed up with the room number. We found the right room, in which a policy round was still occurring. So someone came up to us and said it'd be fine if we used an empty room.

Needless to say the round didn't go well. Worse still I realized after checking and rechecking Jonah's stuff, I had 2 neg cases- one of which was an old, unedited version, the other of which I didn't bring support for.....I tried to mesh them, but spent so much time thinking of that that I didn't think of anything for cross ex.... The round went downhill from there. It got interesting before the end, but the winner was clear. I heard someone else from scarlet say Will thought he lost, but he was probably the only one who thought so...

We ate crab cooker that night- and if you haven't eaten it you need to. It is the best clam chowder ever made.

Sleep awaited.

But of course I wouldn't end a post on a cheesy line like that. The fact is sleep had to awake. I had spent so much time finalizing Jonah's brief case, that he had the correct versions of my cases. I thanked him for bringing the laptop and started typing it all up. I then finished another aff. case I was working on....extremely impromptu, but I wanted to get the most out of the tournament, and I wouldn't have another chance to run it. I had no idea how to print it, but that would wait. Once it is 1:30 am, a lot of things can wait.

Now sleep awaited.

Concordia Part 1

as many of you know, Jonah and I went to the Concordia tournament last week- in LD. So here follows the best of my recollection.

I'd been wanting to go to an LD tournament all year, or well, at least since the modesto round robin, which was my first LD tourney this year (in Dec.). I've been rather disappointed that my second tournament of the season, first qualifier of the season, would be my last (Can't go 2 biola), so I wanted to make the most of it.

Since it was being held at Concordia university, in Irvine, we would drive down Monday.. The drive, which we have done quite a bit, was a bit more hectic than usual. We left at around 5 am, but still hit the inbound traffic to Oakland. Most likely because of last minute stuff, like Jonah grabbing the laptop at the last minute. Since it was early and dark, it was hard to drive. I wouldn't really know, but that's what I'm told. A car ahead of us abruptly slammed it's brakes and we came inches from it's bumper, while the two cars behind us hit (not much, but still scary)
God was watching...
The rest of the drive was the same monotony. At a gas station we saw a chipmunk, which was rather exciting, you don't see those too much... It was interesting until we found out we were deceived and it was an ordinary squirrel.
We were nearly hit again when we got to Irvine. Construction work was stalling us, and we were rather frustrated with the slow time already. But as we went around a bend (we're on a 2-way street now..) a minivan zoomed around, evidently crashing into us had we not been stalled.
God still there...
Needles to say the drive alone was an adventure.

We got to where we were staying -a beach house my mom's side of the family shares. We walked to the beach and ate dinner. Several jellyfish washed on shore so we didn't swim. Water was really col anyway. Jonah and I did an empire competition. Instead of sand castles you make sand civilizations. You start out with huts, hovels, etc., then show the progression of the city until you have aquaducts, amphitheaters, palaces, seawalls, and eventually other cities connected with roads. We were never challenged by the sea, close as we were to the ocean, so we never needed seawalls. That was disappointing. Constructing perfect sea walls is a difficult task.
And so ended day one.

Change

As you may have noticed, if you have been here (which you should know if you are here) that the name of the blog has been changed from "Of Random and Randomness" to "Pasquinades"
If such things matter, it is merely because
A)- I didn't like the former name, it was too simple
B)- Subsequently, one can conclude that I like complication. Such is true. Sophistication in humor contributes much, in my opinion
C)- I like the word Pasquinade.

At the End of all things....

Or at least the end of summer.

Thus will be the description of the last of my summer days. Well, for starters, where to start. I will probably post more on summer in general, but for now it will be on it's dying days and how I (tried) to make the most of them.

I was bogged down with work, typing transcripts for my grandfather. I wouldn't have been bogged down had it not been for my self imposed deadline. I hate me for doing that.

Then I realized I had limited summer days. Had I referred to a certain Filipino ninja, I would have better spent my time learning how to skydive. Instead I wasted my time, as usual. I did start KOTOR, for your information, Tim, Chris. Great game....

It seems time flew.

The only way I flew with time was changing timezones.

I don't know how it went so fast. I planned to get all sorts of IE written, cases done, etc. I get a feeling that's how it always goes, though I think KOTOR had something to do with it.

Then came September. September means hectic. Not only is it back to school, but me and my siblings birthday all occur then. I don't know why my mom did that to me. But anyway, I get to start worrying about Jonah's birthday, which comes first...

Presents, Etc, got under control, and we saw a movie was coming out. I had not been to a single movie since 2005 with Star wars and King Kong. And considering Hollywood's morale standards, its hard to find a good movie. Especially since I'm at the point where i don't like most G-PG movies coming out and most PG-13 - R movies are no good. However we saw an advertisement for a remake of an old western, including one of my favorite actors, Russell Crowe (so long as he's in an action movie...) So 2 days ago I went with my brother and dad to a Sneek preview/ premier of 3:10 to Yuma. It was good, though there was one scene I couldn't see. Very intense. It was about a rancher who is down on his luck, hitting a dry season, needing to pay off debt, etc., so he takes the job of escorting Gunslinging murderer Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to the 3:10 train to Yuma. Wade trys to psych him out on the long trail to the city.

So today I started school. Fun.

Terrible....

Well hecktic...

I dunno. It was good. Math ( geometry) then science (Advanced biology) then american liturature, then spanish , latin and any other homework like debate, etc. thts pretty much schedule. Well, that's all I can think of for now......

Part 1: Of all The gin joints...

And bars in the world..They had to chose mine.

I mean,

Of all the OOs and Persuasives in the country, they had to chose mine. As you know I went to Nats. I didn't really stand a chance, but It was a whole lot of fun. But rather than hogging them all up, I better get to posting memories.

So.....Day One

Like I said- Of all IE's cross country, they had to chose mine. Though mine was a thematic. Anyway. That is depicted elsewhere, but it hadn't really sank in yet.

In fact, It hadn't sank in until I got to Texas...or even the campus...But I'm skipping ahead.

We went down to Oakland with our Grandparents the day before our flight. On the way down Jonah and I quizzed each other on history. I think I won, as he weaseled out after we came out of the restaurant and tried to go with our grandparents.

I think we had a bunch of memories at the Hotel, but I can't remember. I remember there were a bunch of partyers that kept me and my mom up until at least 2:30. They were loud. REALLY LOUD. We would'dve gone next door and told them to shut up, but it was Oakland, and my mom always worrys about somone brandshing a gun :" Hi, I was wondering If you guys could pipe it down a litt-*BLAM* AUGH!" She even wrries about someone grabbing a gun from the glove comaprtment if we make a face out the car window. (NOTE: We do NOT homeschoole because columbine, as is a large misconception. My mom is just strange sometimes) They screamed...Loudly..Very loudly. Extremely loudly....

Jonah was disturbed by it also, but sleep overtook him and soon enough my mom. They also 'whoo'ed and 'woo-hooed', but here elaboration ends. As that that carried on until two or three, The first day melted into the second. I think I slept, too. I still can't remember
